Commonwealth Games: Azamati and Sarfo-Antwi through to 100m semis, still no medal for Ghana after day 6

Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Sean Safo-Antwi are through to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Azamati, a national record holder won his heat (7) with a time of  10.19s. Sean Sarfo Antwi finished 4th in heat 10 with 10.33s but his timing was good to see him book a spot in the semi-finals.

“I’m excited [to qualify for the semi-finals], but I got a lot to fix. I need to fix it, so I’ll come back and fix it for the semi-final.” Said Sean Sarfo Antwi

On Azamati finishing first ‘That’s very good. That’s how it should be. Very good.”

The duo will race on Wednesday 6.00 pm at the Alexander Stadium.

One of the favourites to win Gold Akani Simbine of South Africa also made it to the semis after winning his heat with 10.10s.  The current fastest man in Africa, Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala is also through to the semi-finals.

In the women’s division, Jamaican Elaine Thompson Herah who has yet to win a medal at the commonwealth games made it to the semi-finals comfortably.

Ghana’s Jersey Lartey lost to Mohammed  Harris Akbar of England  by unanimous decision

Weightlifting

Ghana’s Forrester Osei , lost out on a medal because he did not complete lifting his weights in the 96kg final.
