EPL: Partey earns first start since August as Arsenal beat Luton to go top

Thomas Partey had been sidelined for most of the season due to a muscle injury that intensified in October 2023

Ghanaian International Thomas Partey played 67 minutes in his first start for Arsenal in the last seven months as the Gunners returned to winning ways on Wednesday (3 April).

Mikel Arteta’s side went back to the top of the Premier League table with a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium.

“Olexander Zinchenko had some really good moments, Thomas Partey had his first start since August, that is unbelievable.”- said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The 30-year-old had been sidelined for most of the season due to a muscle injury that intensified in October 2023. He also missed out on Ghana’s underwhelming campaign at the African Cup of Nations in last January.

On Wednesday’s game, Captain Martin  Ordegaard kept his place and struck first, with Daiki Hashioka’s own goal then ensuring Mikel Arteta’s men could see out a routine victory with a minimum of fuss.

Partey did a decent job at the base of the midfield. Lots of balls over the top in behind that were threatening.

Liverpool, now a point behind, will look to unseat Arsenal once more when they play Sheffield United on Thursday  as Arteta’s focus turns towards Saturday evening’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
