Kenya: Odinga to challenge outcome of Tuesday’s elections

Raila Odinga polled 6,942,930 (48.85%) as against his main rival William Ruto who got  7,176,141 representing 50.49%

The runner-up in Kenya’s presidential election Raila Odinga has said he will explore all constitutional avenues available to challenge the outcome of Tuesday’s elections.

Raila Odinga polled 6,942,930 (48.85%) as against his main rival William Ruto who got  7,176,141 representing 50.49%.

Addressing the nation on Tuesday( 16 August), after the declaration of the results, the Azimio coalition party presidential candidate asked his supporters to remain calm.

“Today, I do not want to fully address our strategies going forward, but suffice it to note, that we will be pursuing all constitutional and legal options available to us,” he said.

“We will do so because we regard the minutes lost in the elections and wrongs committed by the IEBC as treacherous to the process  and the outcomes announced by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati.”

“We ask  Kenyans and friends on Kenya abroad to stand tall and be counted,  as we seek to advance the ideals of democracy, and an open society that we have always stood for, we will pursue justice for our supporters and for all Kenyans so that their choices are respected,” Odinga added.
