Nine-member delegation from Parliament attends IMF/ World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC

A nine-member delegation from Ghana’s Parliament is attending the 2023 IMF/ World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC.

The delegation is led by the chairman of the finance committee in Parliament, Kwaku Kwarteng.

They include the vice-chair of the finance committee and MP for Okaikoi Yaw Boamah, Minority Leader in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson and Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Dr Emmanuel Marfo.

The others are Kennedy Osei Nyarko, chairman of the Roads and Transport, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, Elvis Morris Donkoh, Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, and Betty Nana Efua Krosbi Mensah, Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North.

“The meeting is particularly important for us, Parliament as the institution that is responsible for oversight and for budget and also for legislation,” Marfo told Nana Oye Ankrah in an interview.

He explained that Members of Parliament occupy a special place in the development agenda and therefore, they must make sure that there is adequate legislation on what is agreed upon by the government and the IMF.

“Whatever priorities that the government have, we need to make sure that there is an appropriate budget for them. And we will also make sure that whatever commitment government makes, we are able to follow through to make sure they are done,” he stated.

He said their attendance at the Spring meetings is to make sure that Parliament is part of the debate on development discussions to get members informed to help them in the legislation process.
