Ebenezer Twum Asante, senior vice-president of markets, MTN Group, has said Africa must break trade barriers to effectively lift the continent out of poverty.

Twum Asante was speaking in a panel discussion at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on Thursday (25 January) at the Peduase Presidential Lodge in Aburi in the Eastern Region.

“It is about time with the enablement of technology for us to allow the issue of sovereignty that is leading to closed borders to give way…”

“The tyranny of sovereignty must give way and we must break the borders for African trade to lift,” the vice-president of the MTN Group said.

Asante said Africa needs to fully embrace technology to be able to be part of that distinctive global trade to capture top-value

“Digitization should be able to enable productivity in Africa. For us to be part of that distinctive global trade to capture top value we need technology to be able to do that.”

The three-day event ends on Saturday, (27 January 2024), and will have as its overarching focus the need to propose concrete measures which will lead to Africans achieving prosperity for the African continent.

The event is under the theme, “Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value and Trade”.
