Odartey Lamptey: I regret not prioritising education

The former Ghana international said he would have made more money in football if he was serious with his education

Former Ghana international, Nii Odartey Lamptey has said one thing he regrets in his life was not prioritising education in addition to his football career.

He said: “I regret 100% for not taking my education seriously because that’s the best thing anyone can give to the child. So, that’s why I decided to come back to Ghana to set up the school for others to benefit from.

“I thank God I had some money while playing football but I had a good educational background I would’ve had triple what I got.”

Odartey Lamptey was speaking with Kent Mensah on Sunday Night on Asaase Radio.

He added: “I will not blame my parents; they were pushing me to go to school but I never did. But I’m extremely happy I chose football as a career.”

“Education is key”

Odartey has, however, advised young footballers to take their education very serious as they continue to play football.

“They shouldn’t play with their education; that’s key. They should also be respectful and be disciplined in all their dealings.”
