Two teenagers to represent Ghana at 2024 Zone 4.2 West African Chess Championship
The pair are joined by Ghana's national women's champion, Gertrude Banini, forming a formidable trio representing the nation
Two rising stars from Ghana, Jeshurun Obiri Yeboah Pryce-Tandoh (10) and Hephzibah Awura-Ama Manubea Tandoh (14) are set to make waves at the 2024 Zone 4.2 West African Chess Championship (WACC) in Monrovia, Liberia.
Clinton Fomevor joins the pair alongside the 2023 national women’s champion of Ghana, Gertrude Banini, forming a formidable team to represent the nation.
The tournament runs from Friday (10 May) to Friday (17 May), with Pryce-Tandoh competing in the open division while Banini and Tandoh battle it out in the women’s section.
These young Ghanaian talents will face stiff competition from regional heavyweights. In the open division, Pryce-Tandoh (rated 1547), who is a 2022 African Youth Chess Championships silver medalist, will encounter 31-year-old FIDE Master (FM) Abdulraheem Abdulrahman Akintoye (2245) from Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Tandoh (rated 1511) will lock horns with Nigeria’s Bridget Michael (1945), among others, in the women’s division.
This experience will be invaluable for their development as they strive to improve their current ratings and climb the chess rankings.
