Prices of tomatoes increase by 100%

The development has been caused by an earlier strike action by tomatoes transporters and exporters

Prices of tomatoes have increased by 100% in the market due to an earlier strike action by tomatoes transporters and exporters.

The tomatoes transporters are protesting against the incessant attacks on members by armed robbers.

Checks by Asaase Business show that paint container is now GHC30 from GHC15 and a box of tomatoes is now going for GHC1000.

Earlier, the Tomato Traders and Transporters Association embarked on a strike action claiming the government has failed to provide them with security to Burkina Faso.

The association says four of their members have been attacked and killed by robbers in the past few weeks due to lack of security on the road.

The development has ultimately affected prices of the edible berry because the country mostly rely on import of tomatoes between February and June to shore up local production.
