Tanker drivers to BOST: We need petroleum products now

Last week, tanker drivers in the Ashanti Region decried the lack of adequate supply of fuel products at the BOST depot in the region

The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Union, has called on theBulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited, (BOST) to shore up its declining stocks as many of its members continue to lose their jobs.

Speaking with Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe on the Energy 101 programme, George Nyaunu, national chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Union said, “ I think this is the time to bring out the fact. As I speak to you now, if you get to the depots, the number of tankers we load daily has come down drastically.

“Honestly speaking when you get to BOST today nobody needs to tell you what’s happening there; we used to load about 100 to 140 trucks a day but as I speak with you we load only 30 trucks a day and a lot of the drivers are at home so we don’t really know what is happening.”

Nyuanu added, “I will tell you clear that BOST doesn’t have its own products. The products BOST have now belongs to the Bulk Oil Distributors (BDCs).”

Earlier reports suggested that the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited, (BOST) depots around the country still lacked adequate supply of fuel products.

BOST issued a publication to debunk what it says were rumours making rounds that tanker divers, have petitioned President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the operations of the company which is taking a nosedive.

But the tanker drivers want leadership at BOST to come clear and tell the nation the truth.

Listen to George Nyaunu below:

Meanwhile, some industry players have also confirmed that the situation at BOST with regards to maintaining strategic reserve is grave than is perceived.

The industry players are also calling on President Akufo-Addo to turn his attention to this strategic national entity.

They want the president as a matter of urgency to fix the management issues at BOST so the country can benefit from the company.
