Ghanaian-American appointed general manager of WNBA Golden State

Nyanin played a pivotal role in the USA Basketball Women’s National Team’s gold medal victories at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2018 World Cup in Spain

WNBA Golden State has appointed Ghanaian-American Ohemaa Nyanin as its new general manager, the team announced on Monday (6 May).

Nyanin joins WNBA Golden State from the New York Liberty, where she served in various roles for over five years, most recently as the team’s assistant general manager.

Nyanin’s responsibilities will encompass all aspects of basketball operations, including roster management, team development, and player growth.

She will be reporting directly to Joe Lacob, the co-executive chairman and CEO of the Warriors, and is set to assume her new role next week.

“I am truly honored to be chosen as the first general manager of WNBA Golden State.

Throughout the interview process, it was clear that bringing a WNBA team to the Bay Area was meticulously thought out and those involved are motivated changemakers who will be proactive in growing the league.

I look forward to joining this franchise and building a competitive basketball team that the fans deserve.”

Prior to her time with the Liberty, Nyanin spent five years at USA Basketball as the assistant director of the women’s national team. In this role, she guided youth national teams to international competitions, managed delegation logistics, and provided translation services in Spanish-speaking countries.

Nyanin played a pivotal role in the USA Basketball Women’s National Team’s gold medal victories at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2018 World Cup in Spain.
