At least four individuals have so far been arrested in connection with the bullion van attack in Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra on Thursday (22 June), the police said in a latest update.
In a shocking incident of daylight robbery, General corporal Callistus Amoah was killed in the attack as an escort.
The police issued a statement on Sunday (16 July) announcing that “one of the suspects was arrested yesterday Saturday, 15 July.”
The four are in custody assisting police investigation.
“Further details will be communicated in due course,” the police said.
Speaking at a pre-burial service at the St George Catholic Church in Tesano, Accra, to honour the slain police officer on Friday (14 July), the IGP George Akuffo Dampare said: ”Because of police officers like Callistus, Ghana is at peace.”
“I have been in an unmeasurable pain which I have not been able to measure and define,” the police chief added. “Callistus is a colleague to all of us at the top and to some extent a friend, but to me, he is a brother because the village he comes from is close to a village I have adopted.”
Dampare added: “As I stood by his casket, I was telling God, why can’t I take his place for him to take my place so that in death I feel no more pain … that is how painful the death of my kid brother is to me and by extension my colleagues up here.”
The police administration also used the occasion to promote Callistus Amoah posthumously.
