Asaase@2: We are not here to defame anybody, says Gabby

“The vision is to add to the value of broadcasting in Ghana,” said Gabby, as he is affectionately called, on the second anniversary of Asaase 99.5 Accra

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the board chairman of Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, has said that the media conglomerate will build on its accomplishments in order to continue to grow year after year.

“The vision is to add to the value of broadcasting in Ghana,” said Gabby, as he is affectionately called, speaking on the second anniversary of Asaase 99.5 Accra.

“One thing I am pleased about Asaase is the professionalism. I think it’s not by accident that Asaase has not engendered any negative controversy.

“What I mean is that we are not a station that sets out to defame anybody. We are not a station that sets out to attack personalities. We are not a station that goes out there to do propaganda, for or against other stations,” Otchere-Darko said.

He was speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (14 June 2022).

“It has been two years of bringing our listeners exciting programming, excellent news and setting the pan-African agenda in Ghana. As part of the celebration, [Asaase 100.3] officially goes live in Cape Coast.

“I think for those who thought that we were going to do one-sided politics or whatever, because we build this station on strong ethics of journalism, we’ve been factual, we’ve been objective, we’ve been pan-African, which is actually, if I dare say, [a] first in our country,” Gabby added.

He also acknowledged the importance of the station in Ghana’s media industry, adding that “we’ve been constructive in many ways. And when it comes to entertainment, I mean, I don’t know any station that every day you have some superstar coming through.

“Whether it’s Naa Ashorkor’s programme [Between Hours], whether it’s Elvis [Crystal, on Rush Hour], whether it’s Caroline [Sampson, the host of Asaase Café 995] – even Nana Yaa Mensah interviews superstars.

“So I think really we are defining what a true radio station should be and if we are not defining it we are adding value to the definition of true radio. So, all in all, it’s been good.”

Today is also the first anniversary of Asaase 98.5 Kumasi.
