Ashanti Region: Suspected robbers kill 20-year-old girl

The robbers reportedly escaped with an unspecified amount of money and a mobile device after shooting the girl

Armed robbers on Tuesday (13 July) shot and killed a young lady in Akatago near the Maxima junction at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Police said the yet-to-be-identified lady was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital by some good Samaritans after sustaining deep throat wounds.

She was, however, confirmed dead by medics.

The robbers reportedly fled with an unspecified amount of money and a mobile device after shooting the girl. Tuesday night’s incident has sparked fear among residents.

Police gun down notorious armed robber

The police in the Ashanti Region last month gunned down a suspected notorious armed robber, Iddrisu Adams alias Koomi, for attempting to escape from lawful custody.

The suspect was on the wanted list of the command and was arrested on 22 June 2021 through a special police operation.

On 23 June 2021, he was being escorted to places named by him as hide-outs of his accomplices when he attempted to escape.

The police then responded swiftly by shooting him. He was subsequently rushed to the St. Martins Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police have since launched a search for his accomplices.
