Residents of Community 25 debunk assertions of TDC over rezoning of land meant for police station

The residents have insisted that the land must be used for its intended purpose instead of being sold to a private developer

Residents of Tema Community 25 have debunked assertions by the TDC Development Company Ltd over rezoning of land for the construction of a police station in the area.

The residents have insisted that the land must be used for its intended purpose instead of being sold to a private developer.

However, the TDC has said open lands within the company’s acquisition area in Tema Community 25 are government lands and not meant for recreational purposes.

According to the residents, the current development emerged in 2020 when the community observed that TDC has sold all the designated areas for public use to a private developer, in addition to a piece of land behind the police station expected to be used to develop quarters for the police officers.

“TDC must be a serious institution and face the fact when they are not doing the right thing,” Bagbana Van-Gogh, the chairman of the Community 25 Residents Association said.

The residents say the community begun to engage with TDC to find ways of ensuring that the designated areas are reversed to their intended uses since they own it as contractual obligation to members of the community.

“While the community continue to explore ways of resolving the issue TDC remains adamant about it and instead continue to urge the developer to go ahead with its planned activities under its supervision. This action, the community finds it reprehensible and bad faith,” the residents said in a statement.
