11 die in Tamale – Buipe highway crash

The 11 passengers died on the spot when a tipper truck rammed into a mini bus on the Tamale - Buipe highway

At least 11 persons have been confirmed dead in a motor crash at Alipe near Yapei on the Tamale-Buipe Highway.

According to police report, a tipper truck with registration number NR 578- F travelling from Yapei to Tamale rammed into a mini bus on Tuesday resulting in the crash which left several others injured.

The 11 died on the spot.

The injured are being treated at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Over 500 killed in road crash

Meanwhile, statistics provided by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, reveal 517 deaths have been recorded between January and February this year.

A further breakdown of the data shows that 2,560 accident cases were recorded from January to February; out of which involved 1,581 commercial vehicles while 974 had to do with motorcycles.

A regional breakdown of road accidents across the country also revealed that the Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of accident-related deaths with 108.

Eastern Region and the Greater Accra Region followed closely with 91 and 89 deaths respectively.
