CAF Champions League: Ten-man Medeama humbled at Young Africans in Tanzania

The result leaves Young Africans second in Group D on goal difference behind leaders Al Ahly heading into the final two rounds- and Medeama drops to the bottom of the group

Medeama SC’s hopes of reaching the knock-out stage of the CAF Champions League suffered a huge blow as they lost 3-0 at Young Africans in Tanzania on Wednesday.

The result leaves Young Africans second in Group D on goal difference behind leaders Al Ahly heading into the final two rounds- and Medeama drops to the bottom of the group.

Pacome Zouzoua broke the deadlock for the hosts after 31 minutes before second-half strikes from Bakari Mwamnyeto and Mudathiri Yahya sealed the win.

It was more of a miserable day for Jonathan Sowah who had the opportunity to draw Medeama level, ten minutes into the second half the striker failed to convert from the penalty spot.

He was later sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the match.

With Al Ahly facing crunch clashes with group opponents Medeama and Young Africans, the Tanzanian club will fancy their chances of hunting down the Egyptians.

Medeama have just four points from four games with games against CR Belouizdad and Al Ahlare still to come.
