Ashanti Region: Assemblyman elected NDC parliamentary candidate for Mampong

Yakubu Issifu polled 723 votes beating his main contender Yahaya Seidu who secured 284 votes

An insurance marketer Yakubu Issifu has won his bid to contest for the Mampong parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He polled 723 votes beating his main contender Yahaya Seidu who secured 284 votes.

Seven ballots were however rejected.

Delivering his victory speech, Issifu pledged to unite the delegates to work harder to appreciate the votes of NDC flagbearer John Mahama and snatch the seat from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I anticipated a win. I knew the relationship between myself and the delegates but I didn’t anticipate a wide margin like this”, he said.

“I intend to unite all my supporters and that of my opponents so we wrestle power for our flagbearer. The message to the NPP is that they should watch out for we are ready to snatch the seat from them”, he added.

Issifu, who officially launched his political career by vying for the parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mampong Constituency, has been instrumental in the affairs of the party.

He is currently the assemblyman for Kofiase electoral area in the Mampong municipality of the Ashanti Region.
