FDA approved PreCardix food supplement launched in Accra

PreCardix is an effective non-prescription natural health product for healthy blood pressure and cardiovascular health

PreCardix, a safe and effective non-prescription natural health product for healthy blood pressure and cardiovascular health in sub-saharan Africa was launched at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday (31 May).

PreCardix, is sponsored by Marealis Africa, a company focused on preventing and treating health issues naturally and sustainably by offering scientifically backed innovative products.

During the launch, Cardiothoracic Surgeon and an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof Mark Tettey said, “The good thing about this drug is that it doesn’t give you hypertension and if you have mild hypertension it will help reduce it.”

“PreCardix 1.2g and 1.8g appears to be effective in controlling both systolic and diastolic blood pressure comparable to lisinopril 10mg,” he said.

According to him, the drug helps to maintain blood pressure that is already in a normal range.

He however noted that, “A larger study is needed to investigate the side effects of PreCardix since side effects are yet to be documented.”

PreCardix contains a peptide concentrate derived from protein of fresh cold water Artic shrimp Pandalus borealis

Dr Alfred Doku on his part said, “There is a huge burden of hypertension and associated complications in Africa with stroke being one of the leading causes of death in Ghana hence the need for routine screening.”

PreCardix, however, does not treat, cure or prevent blood pressure related conditions, hence the need to measure and monitor blood pressure regularly.

Dr Doku however advised that the greatest investment by a patient is buying a blood pressure monitor.

He noted that routine screening, opportunistic screening, clinical screening such as chest pain, palpitation and dyspnea are some diagnosis of hypertension.
