FDA: We’ve not approved any skin lightening agent for use

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says the use of injectable glutathione as a skin lightening agent poses a serious safety risk

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says it has not approved any injectable skin lightening agent for use.

The FDA in a statement said it “has noted with concern and cautions the public on the unsafe use of the injectable glutathione, which is being promoted on social media for skin lightening and bleaching, correction of uneven skin tone and reduction of blemishes”.

The statement added, “Consumers are to take note that no injectable glutathione or any other skin lightening agent has been approved by the FDA for such use.

“So far there is no clinical evidence on the safety and effectiveness of these products and no published guidelines for correct dosing and duration of treatment.”
