Ghana is well prepared for any COVID emergency, says Nsiah Asare

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (3 January), Asare said, "we are assuring everyone that there are measures in place" to contain COVID

The presidential advisor on health, Anthony Nsiah Asare, has given assurance to Ghanaians that steps are being taken to effectively handle any COVID outbreak in Ghana following a surge in cases in China and other parts of the world.

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (3 January), Asare said, “we are assuring everyone that there are measures in place” to contain COVID.

“And if you are not fully vaccinated, this is the time to take advantage and get fully vaccinated,” he advised.

“We have a lot of vaccines in stock right now, and we are willing to give them to anyone in need. Luckily for us almost every citizen in this country knows about COVID, and know how to manage COVID, because of that I  think that we are prepared for any emergency that will come into the country.”

“If you find yourself not feeling well, go and see a doctor,” Asare told show host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo

Except for passengers originating their journey from China, Ghana has put measures in place to ensure that all persons arriving in Ghana (citizens, residents, and visitors) who are fully vaccinated will be exempt from any form of testing done either prior to boarding from the originating country or on arrival in Ghana.

China reported three new COVID deaths for Monday, bringing its official death toll since the pandemic began to 5,253.

On Tuesday, the People’s Daily, the Communist Party’s official newspaper, cited Chinese experts as saying the illness caused by the virus was relatively mild for most people.

“Severe and critical illnesses account for 3% to 4% of infected patients currently admitted to designated hospitals in Beijing,” Tong Zhaohui, vice president of the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, told the newspaper.
