Ghanaian high jump queen retains title at 13th African Games

Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah beat out Guinea's Balley Fatoumata and Algeria's Darina Hadil Rezik to take home the gold medal

Ghanaian high jump star Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah soared to victory at the 13th African Games, defending her title in the Women’s High Jump Final held at the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Stadium on Tuesday (19 March).

This dominant performance marks Yeboah’s second consecutive African Games gold medal, solidifying her place as a continental powerhouse in the high jump.

The 22-year-old athlete, who also holds the national record of 1.94m set at the 2023 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Games in Chengdu, China—representing the University of Cape Coast (UCC)—cleared a height of 1.90m in Accra.

Yeboah’s jump outshined her closest competitors, with Guinea’s Balley Fatoumata securing silver at 1.81m and Algeria’s Darina Hadil Rezik taking home bronze at 1.78m. While narrowly missing the Olympic qualifying mark of 1.97m, Yeboah’s stellar performance significantly contributed to Ghana’s medal haul.

The country currently sits in 6th place with a total of 47 medals (10 gold, 22 silver, and 15 bronze).
