The Ministry of Business Development is poised to launch an initiative dubbed “For Better Business Together” on 6 October in Accra.
The initiative, which is the first of its kind, includes establishing a centre for entrepreneurship and development of Sustainable Development Goals investor maps by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
For Better Business Together will also provide support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility and the International Chamber of Commerce’s global “Save Our SMEs” campaign.
Global impact
The initiative, which is being rolled out in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Business for Peace Foundation, will act as a springboard for the global launch of Business for Peace’s Future of Business programme.
The rollout marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative driven by the former UN secretary general and Ghanaian diplomat, Kofi Annan.
The programme launch will announce global and local initiatives in Ghana being built to support economic recovery and strengthen the sustainability and resilience of businesses for the future.
The Norwegian and Ghanaian governments have lent support to the programme, with endorsement from Prime Minister Erna Solberg and President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The keynote address will be delivered by President Akufo-Addo. The Norwegian prime minister will also deliver remarks in a digital format.
Other speakers include Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal of Ghana’s Ministry of Business Development, Charles Abani, UN resident co-ordinator for Ghana, Silke Hollander, UNDP resident representative for Ghana, Valentina Mintah of the ICC, Ahunna Eziakonwa of the UNDP, John Denton of the ICC and Marius Døcker of Business for Peace.
