Okraku Mantey: No event entry for persons without COVID-19 vaccination cards

The deputy minister of tourism says “vaccination cards will be required” from all before being allowed to enter events grounds in December

The Deputy minister of tourism, arts and culture, Mark Okraku Mantey has served notice that individuals attending major events planned in December must be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they would be allowed entry.

Speaking on Accra-based Hitz FM, the deputy minister said that the government has outlined guidelines and requirements to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 this Christmas.

He said that “vaccination cards will be required” and “you must show that you have been vaccinated to be able to enter” events.

“We want to keep you and your siblings and your family alive because if we should come together at a particular place, especially indoor events, and we do not put some checks and balance in place, we’re likely to have challenges after December,” Mantey said.

He added that “children from age five and above would require masks. Masks will be removed for special activities like eating and drinking.”

Ghana targets 150,000 tourists this Christmas

The deputy minister has also disclosed that the government is set to launch a “December in GH” campaign, to promote tourism this Christmas. He said that over 150,000 tourists are expected to visit Ghana between the period, thus, the government is putting together measures to forestall a possible spike in the numbers of COVID-19 cases.

“When you want to go for any event, especially when we’ve launched ‘December in GH’, we’re saying that we’re targeting about 150,000 people entering the country between now and January; we don’t have to go and have fun and come back with COVID-19,” Mantey said.
