KMA re-elects Patrick Kwame Frimpong as presiding member

Patrick Kwame Frimpong secured an impressive 55 "YES votes" out of 66 assembly members, solidifying his candidature

An outspoken assembly member for Krofrom East electoral area, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, has been successfully retained as the presiding member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Frimpong secured an impressive 55 “YES votes” out of 66 assembly members, solidifying his candidature.

The election faced a runoff after the initial attempt, where all three candidates, fell short of securing two-thirds majority.

The incumbent polled 34 votes while the two main contenders, Aggripa Opoku and Ernest Ofori Baffour, managed five and 19 votes respectively. While Opoku faced defeat, Baffour, however, stepped down from the race paving the way for the incumbent to go unopposed.

Frimpong has expressed his commitment to uniting the Assembly and fostering development at the grassroots level. With a renewed mandate, he pledges to bring positive changes and progress closer to the people served by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Meanwhile, Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Pyne says KMA remains committed to enforcing sanitation laws to rid the city of filth. At least 20 people faced court for violating sanitation laws, last year. Sam Pyne is warning that perpetrators will not be spared.

The election follows the inauguration and the swearing in of the nineth members of the Assembly. The event was graced by the Minister for Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development Dan Kwaku Botwe, Members of Parliament, traditional rulers and the clergy.
