Students of the Krobea Asante Technical Institute have been surcharged the cost of damages caused during a violent protest earlier this year.
The management of the school says a bill of GHC430 has been imposed on continuing and final-year students for the repair of destroyed school property, as recommended by a five-member committee that probed the 22 January disturbance.
Over 40 students are currently standing trial over the incident. Speaking after court proceedings on Tuesday 4 April, the chairman of the Parent Teacher Association of the school, Mawunyo Cudjoe Kwasi-Kumah, who provided additional updates to journalists said the school has since been reopened.
The Asokore Mampong District Court has adjourned the case to 4 May. The court has also withdrawn an order compelling the students to report to the police station every week.
The lawyer for the accused persons, Kwabena Gyamfi, has requested that the prosecution withdraws the charges against his clients because the student population has been surcharged for the damages.
