Linda Asante: Ghana will achieve 50% LPG penetration target by 2030

NPA earlier this month commenced the implementation of the cylinder recirculation module (CRM) programme in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is optimistic that Ghana will achieve its target of 50% penetration of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) use by 2030 as part of measures to mitigate climate change.

NPA earlier this month commenced the implementation of the cylinder recirculation module (CRM) programme in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.

Under the CRM, residents of Accra, Kumasi and other parts of the country do not have to own a cylinder to use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic and commercial activities.

Filled LPG cylinders will be kept at exchange points for customers to pay for the content and pick up the filled cylinders after registering with their national identity card – Ghana Card.

The NPA and its partners are implementing the programme under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy.

Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (27 September), the deputy CEO of NPA, Linda Asante said Ghanaians must embrace the cylinder recirculation module.

“By 2030 we are hoping to penetrate the country with about 50% of LPG usage through the cylinder recirculation module, which was rolled out in September, so NPA is doing a lot.

“The Ministry of Energy already has an energy transition framework in place that is hoping to make the country transit in our own pace within a certain time frame and gradually we will get there,” Asante said in an interview with Caleb Ahinakwah.
