Solomon Hammond triumphs in MEAC indoor track and field championships

Solomon Hammond faced tough competition from Jaden Baker of South Carolina State University, Caleb Goslee of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Vincent Bond of Norfolk State University

Ghanaian sprinter Solomon Hammond emerged victorious in the Men’s 200m Finals at the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (MEAC), held at the Virginia Beach Sports Centre in Virginia, USA, on Tuesday (20 February).

The fiercely contested event, which commenced on Sunday (18 February), witnessed Hammond, representing Coppin State University, showcasing his prowess right from the heats.

In Heat 7, he faced tough competition from Jaden Baker of South Carolina State University, Caleb Goslee of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Vincent Bond of Norfolk State University.

Hammond powered through to claim the top spot, clocking in at 21.30 seconds, leaving his nearest rival, Vincent Bond, trailing by 0.27 seconds with a time of 21.57 seconds.

However, it was in the Finals that Hammond truly demonstrated his exceptional skills. With a remarkable season-best performance, he blazed across the finish line in just 20.90 seconds, clinching victory in the Men’s 200m Finals. Hammond’s impressive performance not only secured individual glory but also contributed crucially to his team’s success, earning Coppin State University a vital 10 points and propelling them to fourth place in the overall standings.
