Cecilia Dapaah’s case: OSP could be sued over leaked bank details, lawyer says

The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) could face legal action if it is established that its officers leaked information concerning the bank details of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah to the media.
Dapaah resigned last month following reports that cash and goods worth millions of cedis had been stolen by two of her house helps at her residence in Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.
Reports in a cross section of the media suggest an investigation conducted at the Abelemkpe residence by officers of the OSP led to the discovery of US$590,000 and GHC2.73 million.
The OSP on Thursday debunked the reports, urging the public to disregard such information.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has not disclosed or revealed any information or details in respect of the bank accounts of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, which are under a frozen order issued by the Special Prosecutor.
“The OSP urges the public to disregard media accounts on purported bank balances reported to have been disclosed by the OSP,” it tweeted on Thursday.
Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (11 August), private legal practitioner Oscar Asante-Nnuro said: “Of course, there are legal implications, because if it turns out that it was orchestrated by the OSP, then they cannot play the ostrich by coming back to debunk all those media speculations.”
“It is not just any institution; it is a special institution that should be above reproach and exercise professionalism to the highest order.
“So, it will be very hypocritical on their part to have maybe, leaked that information and come back and debunk it. If it happens that, that was the situation, then it has legal implications,” Asante-Nnuro added.
