About 672 cases of typhoid fever recorded in Kadjebi district in 2023

In 2023, the Kadjebi District in the Oti Region recorded 672 cases of typhoid fever, compared to 370 in 2022 and 298 in 2021

Stephen Amoah, a public health officer of the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has revealed that 672 cases of typhoid fever were recorded in district last year.

Speaking during an orientation of National Service Personnel in Kadjebi on Saturday (10 February), Amoah said, “Initially, most people did not report and they continued to do self-medication at home”.

He, therefore, urged the residents to report early symptoms of the disease for early treatment to avoid complications of the disease.

Amoah indicated that poor sanitation may be a risk factor for the disease and called on the public to cook food very well and eat hot or warm meals.

“Vaccination is the golden preventer of the disease,” he urged.

The public health officer mentioned loss of appetite, abdominal pain, joint pain, diarrhoea, headaches, and rashes as some of the symptoms of the disease.

He said the incubation period for the disease was five to 14 days and that the infected person would develop internal bleeding, swollen feet and pneumonia.

He, therefore, advised typhoid fever patients to take their drugs as prescribed by the physician.
