CAF Champions League: Medeama’s training session in Tanzania delayed due to unavailable venue

Medeama Sporting Club’s training session ahead of Wednesday’s CAF Champions League Group D match in Tanzania against Young Africans has been delayed due to the unavailability of the match venue. Medeama SC arrived in Dar es Salam, Tanzania on Sunday.

According to CAF regulations, the visiting teams must train at the match venue a day before the game, but due to a congested schedule at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, it was not possible.

Simba SC to host Wydad AC on Tuesday afternoon, and later in the evening, Al Hilal SC take on Etoile du Sahel in the CAF Confederation Cup at the same venue.

As a result, Medeama were offered the Gymkhana Posta in Dar es Salaam to train but were prevented by the owners of the venue.

Medeama coach Evans Adotey speaking at a press conference on Tuesday said it was frustrating but is unfazed by the situation.

“We were ready to move on to the pitch, then a local team came that the pitch belonged to them. No room for us to train.

“We were held hostage until after 45 minutes, we were told to go and come back at 10 pm.”

“It looked frustrating, I was intimidated. But all the same, we’ve got this off.

“I’m waiting for an opportunity to train somewhere. I’ll get my boys back on track tomorrow to maybe do our best.”
