Oti Region: GIISDEC holds stakeholder engagements over iron ore

Officials from GIISDEC used the platform to give assurance to the locals that jobs will be created in the communities when mining operations begin

The Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) held a two-day stakeholder engagement in the Kedjebi district of the Oti Region to thank the chiefs and locals for their cooperation and support since the discovery of iron ore.

The director for corporate affairs and international relations, Nasurulai Abdulai, also introduced officials of Seven Stars Mining Limited to the traditional authorities, saying the meeting is to deepen collaboration between GIISDEC and host communities and ensure cordial relations amongst all stakeholders.

Abdulai said Seven Stars Mining Limited is committed to undertaking Mineral Resource Estimation (MRE) in an environmentally friendly manner.

He said GIISDEC and its partners are committed to sustainable mining and would do well to preserve the environment.

Officials also gave assurance to the locals that jobs will be created in the communities when mining operations begin.

The delegation visited various communities to sensitise them about the mining business.

The delegation visited the DCE and the police.
