Caregiver arrested for allegedly killing 11-month-old baby

The baby died at the North Legon Hospital after gasping for breath when the caregiver forced liquid content into her mouth

The police have arrested a caregiver in Accra for allegedly venting her anger on an 11-month-old baby girl leading to her death.

The 54-year-old-caregiver, Clara Ayani-Ampah, was arrested after a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the room at the Happy Bloomers Creche at Agbogba exposed her dastardly act.

Ayani-Ampah was seen in the video forcing a liquid content believed to be food from a cup into the mouth of little Allegra Yaba Ackah Mensah’s mouth while holding the baby’s hands tightly behind her.

The baby was seen in the video screaming and crying helplessly as she gasped for breath.

Little Mensah died at the North Legon Hospital after managers of the creche rushed her there for medical attention.

The parents of the baby have reported the case to the police.

The Greater Accra police spokesperson, DSP Effia Tenge, confirmed the incident, adding a docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigations.
