VIDEO: President Akufo-Addo meets Koforidua traders on economic challenges

The global economy has been experiencing rising inflation, soaring costs of living and a sharp depreciation in the value of currencies

President Akufo-Addo, as part of his three-day tour of the Eastern Region, has met with the leadership of market women and traders in Koforidua to discuss the country’s economic challenges.

He met them to have a conversation about the economy and the impact on their businesses, listening to them, taking notes and also telling them what his government is doing and planning to do to stabilise and revive the Ghanaian economy.

Like the rest of the world, Ghana has been experiencing rising inflation, high costs of living, price hikes and a sharp depreciation of the cedi to the United States dollar.

The traders, according Asaase News sources who attended the closed-door meeting, spent about an hour with President Akufo-Addo.

The traders described to the president the kinds of interventions they would like to see in the government’s response programme to the economic challenges facing Ghana.

Our sources say the traders signalled that they understand the global nature of the causes of the current difficulties: however, they want the government to include targeted initiatives that will help them salvage their businesses.

President Akufo-Addo in turn explained the causes of the economic challenges and the enormity of the impact they are having on the country’s economy.

The president hinted that his government has some immediate measures to address the challenges and that he will be announcing these shortly to the country.
