We’re procuring more armoured bullion vans, says ABOG

The Association of Bullion Van Operators Ghana (ABOG) has served notice that it is procuring more armoured vehicles to augment its fleet following a recent armed attack on a bullion van at Ablekuma Fanmilk, a suburb of Accra.
At the moment, the association can boast of 150 bulletproof vehicles in Ghana.
The police are on a manhunt to arrest a gang of four robbers after last Thursday’s attack leading to the death of the police escort.
The Bank of Ghana has directed banks to desist from using soft skin bullion vehicles for cash-in-transit operations effective Monday 26 June 2023 instead of the initial 1 July deadline.
Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (26 June), the vice president of the association, Rachel Aggudey said the association has withdrawn all soft-skin bullion vans in operation for the safety of the escort team.
“From the moment we received the directive, we so far have about 150 armoured vehicles at the moment and we’re still procuring some more,” Aggudey said. “They are not easy to acquire, but we are in the process of acquiring more.”

Meanwhile, the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies (ISDES) has said the Ablekuma robbery attack may have been orchestrated by insiders.
A statement issued by the police on Thursday (22 June), gave assurance to the public that the perpetrators will be arrested to face justice.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of our deceased colleague in particular and all personnel of the police service in general.
“We wish to assure the public that we will surely get the robbers arrested to face justice,” the police statement said.
Planned job
Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (23 June), the president of ISDES, Dr Ishmael Norman said: “This appears to be a planned job.”
“I do not also know whether our police have forensic videographers that can do face recognition and all of those features that we need to have in order to go after the perpetrators,” he added.
