Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has presented mobile identification devices and a mobile device management system to the Ghana Police Service.
The donation of the devices worth US$2 million was made possible by the Margins Group, an indigenous Ghanaian identity systems company.
Bawumia said the devices and system will help the police to capture the unique biometric and biographic information of individuals, verify vehicle registration, drivers’ licence, road worthiness certificate and insurance, and match the data against other databases including the National Identification Authority’s database.
In a Facebook post on Friday (23 December), Bawumia said the devices will give police officers real- time access to data on individuals, vehicles, criminal histories and therefore help in the fight against crime.
The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare received the items and expressed gratitude to the Margins ID Group, founded by Moses Baiden Jnr.
