World Bee Day: A look at Ghana’s International Stingless Bee Centre

Celebrating World Bee Day, which occurs on the 20 May every year, explore one of Ghana’s eco-tourism centres, the International Stingless Bee Centre by Beenest Ghana.

Beenest Ghana was established in 2005 by University of Cape Coast senior lecturer Professor Peter Kwapong.

The International Stingless Bee Centre is 3km from Kakum National Park, another tourist attraction in the Central Region. The centre offers three attractions: a stingless bee tour, a hike on the bee walkway, and a pollinator garden tour.

The centre also offers two types of beekeeping training: honeybee and stingless for interested persons.

Unlike honeybees, stingless bees produce honey with medicinal properties, such as propolis. Propolis has been found to fight viruses, bacteria, and fungi and has anti-inflammatory properties that help the skin heal.

The centre also sells FDA-approved honeybee and stingless honey.
