The Liberty House branch of GCB Bank in the Central Business District of Accra caught fire on Saturday, officials have confirmed.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 11am.
Firefighters are currently at the scene working to douse the inferno. Officials say the fire destroyed the first floor of the seven-storey building in Kantamanto.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
“We’ve managed to contain it within that floor. At the moment we want to make sure the other floors are safe,” an official told the media.
Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have also arrived on the scene in Kantamanto to maintain law and order as curious onlookers make it difficult for officials to access the site of the fire.
