2023 Africa Para Games: Paralympic Committee seeks sponsorship support

Games Committee in funding dilemma ahead of September 3 start

The Local Organizing Committee of the 2023 African Para Games is seeking funding support, ahead of the tournament’s September 3 start date.

African Paralympic Committee president Samson Deen, revealed the Games Committee is cash-strapped despite writing to over 300 companies for financial support.

”Government is doing whatever it can but government alone cannot do it. We have written to over 300 companies looking for sponsorship and very strange, almost all the companies are still thinking about what to do.”

”I’ve never seen this before, now what we have decided during this week is that we will start doing ambush walks to some of the companies.

”First we were discussing on the phone but now we will come and then whatever you pledged to do, we will take. “It looks like they are willing to do but things are a bit difficult.” he said.

In July, 26 countries wrote to the APC to communicate their decision to withdraw from the African Paralympic Games due to the delay in the completion of facilities to host the games.

The APC was subsequently forced to exclude a number of disciplines from the list of approved games.

The original tournament program was reviewed to exclude athletics, power-lifting and goal-ball as they did not meet International Paralympic Committee requirements.
