Minister urges candidates not to cheat as 8,636 students sit for BECE in North East Region

Yidana Zakaria has been urging BECE candidates in the North East Region to desist from any examination malpractices

The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, has urged students sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) not to cheat as this could attract punitive actions from the authorities.

The minister has been visiting examination centers in the North East Region to have first-hand information as the students sit for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

On his tour of the examination centers, the minister admonished the students to make the region proud.

The 2023 BECE started on Monday (7 August 2023) with a total of 8,636 candidates sitting for the examinations from 219 basic schools;179 public schools and 40 private Junior High Schools across the region.

The number comprises 4,478 males and 4,158 females.

The minister, who was addressing the candidates at the Nalerigu Senior High School urged them to do independent academic work and desist from engaging in exam malpractice.

“I know that you have prepared very well, so when you go in, do independent academic work. Don’t cheat; don’t depend on anybody. Try to do the best that you can and be proud of the results that you get,” Yidana said.

The region is expecting 80% performance from this year’s examinations in the region.
