Trade between Ghana and Italy hits 600 million Euros

Italian Ambassador to Ghana Daniela D’Orlandi  said Italy is committed to building strong bilateral ties with Ghana

Trade between Ghana and Italy has reached 600 million Euros as of the third quarter of 2022, the Italian Ambassador to Ghana Daniela D’Orlandi has said.

She is optimistic the figure will grow with the striking of new partnership deals in the coming months.

Speaking to the media at the official opening ceremony of the 7th West Africa Agrofood & Plastprintpack Show and Conference in Accra, D’Orlandi  said Italy is committed to building strong bilateral ties with Ghana.

“Our bilateral trade has increased a lot notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2021 it was over 520 million Euros, and it is still growing.””

“Because in 2022 as at August already we have reached 600 million Euros and most of our export to Ghana are exports of technology, so we are very pleased to be here today with so many companies,”she said.

She revealed about twenty Italian businesses are in Ghana to participate in the 7th West Africa Agrofood & Plastprintpack show and conference in Accra.

“We are proud to bring to this important exhibition a large delegation of 20 Italian manufacturers of machinery and products from the plastic, printing packaging and agribusiness industries.

“We are sure their presence in Accra will allow Ghanaian companies to learn more about the possibilities Italy can offer to upgrade local production and allowing it on one hand to better respond to the increasingly sophisticated domestic demands.”

“Italian machinery in the plastic, packaging, printing and agri food sector are widely appreciated worldwide and have earned their side reputation through consistent efforts to support their clients,” D Orlandi said.

The three-day conference is being organized by Fairtrade Messe in collaboration with its local partners, Geovision.

It is aimed at helping countries in the West African Sub-region to increase self-sufficiency and also improve supply in the agricultural value chain.

In all 90 exhibitors from six countries namely Germany, Italy, Iran, The Netherlands, South Africa and Sri Lanka have mounted pavilions at this year’s exhibition.
