Adutwum to Mahama: You’re the reason why Harvard may not admit Ghanaian students

Mahama recently chastised the government of pulling Ghana out of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said former President Mahama could be the reason why the prestigious, Harvard University may not admit Ghanaian students.

Mahama recently chastised the government for pulling Ghana out of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to the former president, the action by the government has led to fallen standards by the Ghanaian students in the WASSCE. Contrary to former President Mahama’s assertion, Ghana continues to write and excel in the WASSCE.

Speaking in an interview with Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (10 January), Adutwum urged Mahama to be circumspect with his choice of words.

“… So President Mahama, my concern is that, as a human being, you can make any comment you want to make, but as a former president, your words carry weight.

“President Mahama may be the reason why a student does not get accepted to Harvard from Ghana because of the way he is denigrating the exams of his own country, and when even accepted grudgingly, they are not going to get the scholarship they need.”

“So I can’t advise him because I have never been a president before, but I will expect that he chooses his words carefully and ensure that he doesn’t destroy the Ghanaian education system,” Adutwum said.
