Africa must set up a body to tell its own stories, says Dr Kiboro

Dr Wilfred Kiboro, the chairman of the Nation Media Group says it is about time Africa sets up its own media platform to tell the continent’s stories in its unique way.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Kusi Ideas Festival in Accra on Friday (10 December), Dr Kiboro said, “If there is anything that I would like to see coming out of this conference is for us to purpose how we are going to set up this body that can help Africa tell its own story.”

“Today, if you want to learn anything about Africa, you’ll probably go to a website – BBC, CNN etc. This is a shame. 60 years down the line we have the capacity today to have a media platform that can actuary tell the stories in our words, our ways and, therefore, to tell the correct picture about Africa,” he added.

“This is the narrative that we need to change because what people see about you actually matters and sometimes it becomes a matter of life and death,” Dr Kiboro said.
