Parkoso murder: Suspect remanded, family calls for justice

The suspect Kwesi Bonsu has been provisionally charged with murder in connection with the death of Samira Yakubu, 24

The Asokore Mampong District Court has remanded a 26-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend at Parkoso in the Ashanti Region into police custody.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday (13 December) when residents heard the screams of a young lady from a plantain farm behind the suspect’s house.

The suspect Kwesi Bonsu has provisionally been charged with murder in connection with the death of Samira Yakubu, 24.

Speaking to Asaase News, Chief Inspector Samuel Mensah said “this is a case between the Republic and Kwesi Bonsu regarding an alleged murder of his girlfriend. Upon arrival we saw people lynching the suspect, we are still conducting investigations, so far he has been charged with murder.”

According to him, the accused person is being remanded in custody for his own safety because “the community members want to take the law into their own hands.”

The suspect whose plea is yet to be taken has been remanded by the court to reappear on 11 January.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased, Umaru Farouk, wants the body of his daughter released to them for burial.

“It’s very painful, we were there yesterday and was told to come to court today. We want the body to proceed with our burial plans, but they said they are still investigating, since we are Muslims we can’t keep the deceased for a long time, we need to bury her as soon as possible,” he told Asaase News.
