Anti-LGBTQ+ bill: Palgrave Boakye-Danquah calls for restraint on both sides in Parliament

The bill now moves to the consideration stage after which it will go through the third reading before it is passed into law

The government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has called for restraint after the wild exchanges between the member of parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and member of parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The two lawmakers clashed during the debate on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, popularly known as Anti-gay Bill.

Parliament on Wednesday (6 July), unanimously adopted the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2022”.

The object of the Bill is to provide for proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian Family Values proscribe lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) and related activities.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who doubles as the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, called the member of parliament for Tamale Central a “mad man”. The Tamale Central MP on the other hand, called her a “practitioner of same sex”.

Asaase News sighted a reaction on Boakye-Danquah’s Facebook page urging both MPs to smoke the peace pipe.

“What just happened on the floor of Parliament yesterday…? Did my brother and friend Murtala Mohammed accuse Minister Ursula?

“Did Minister Ursula rebut angrily to Murtala’s accusations by expressing acts with wife, daughter and mother of Murtala? Wow wow wow wow wow wow… Restraint on both sides of the house. Let’s Parlay RESPECTFULLY…” , he wrote.
