Asantehene encourages Ghana-Colombia trade boost

The Asantehene said the position of the Colombian vice-president provides an ideal platform for Ghana and Colombia to engage in collaborative efforts, offering mutual benefits

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has encouraged Vice President of Colombia, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, to lead collaborative efforts between her country and Ghana, with a particular focus on agriculture, trade, and investment.

Emphasising Vice-President Márquez Mina’s Ghanaian heritage, the Asantehene highlighted her vital role in advocating for trade relations between Africa and Colombia.

The king made these remarks during a visit by the Colombian vice-president and her delegation to the Manhyia Palace, on Thursday (7 September).

He noted that the position of the Colombian vice-president provides an ideal platform for Ghana and Colombia to engage in collaborative efforts, offering mutual benefits.

“Be it that you are the first Afro-Colombian to be the vice-president, we are expecting more collaboration between Ghana and Colombia,” Otumfuo said.

“With your own background in agriculture and mining, we believe that your weather and our weather and the agricultural system are the same. Therefore, help us better communicate it, we believe that you have a voice in Africa. Be our promoter so that we can engage investments in Colombia to Ghana, and Ghana to Colombia. It’s a win-win situation for all of us,” he added.

For her part, the Colombian vice-president expressed her enthusiasm for reconnecting with her Ghanaian heritage. She highlighted the significant potential for both Ghana and Colombia to collaborate in the agricultural sector, leading to mutual benefits for both nations.
