Asantehene to Akufo-Addo: You don’t disappoint

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says Akufo-Addo is a man of his word, and so he looks forward to him delivering on his promises to Asanteman

The Asantehene has praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his commitment to the development of the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also praised the president for undertaking his current tour of the country, adding, “If you stay in your office, your appointees will tell you what you want to hear. This tour will help you verify what you hear and know the truth.

“I know you and you do not disappoint. I trust you and I know you will honour Asanteman,” the Asantehene said when President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him to kick off his four-day tour of the region.

For his part, the president expressed gratitude to Otumfuo and Asanteman for supporting the New Patriotic Party and his candidature in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Gratitude

“I am here to show my gratitude to you and Asanteman for your support in the last elections,” the president said.

“You have supported the NPP since time immemorial, and in the last elections, but for your unshrinking support and that of Asanteman to me and the NPP, we would not have been in government.”

He continued, “I am here to show you and the entire kingdom my gratitude for that solid support that has seen us in power.”

Explaining the rationale for his visit to the region, President Akufo-Addo said he is in the Ashanti Region to familiarise himself with the many development projects being undertaken locally, and to listen for himself to the concerns of residents, traditional rulers and opinion leaders.

Unprecedented development

The president also used the opportunity to assure the people of the Ashanti Region that he will not take their support for himself and the NPP for granted, stressing that it is for this reason that several development projects have been completed, with many in the region still in the pipeline.

“There are many ongoing projects. We can all attest to the fact that Kumasi and Asanteman have not witnessed such massive road infrastructural projects in our political history. [There are] other projects like the 1D1F [and] the ongoing Kumasi Airport construction, which is 77% complete and by June next year it will be completed, after which its international status will be achieved,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo also gave his assurance to Otumfuo that, even though there have been delays on the Boankra Inland Port project, plans are far advanced for it to take off.

Among those accompanying President Akufo-Addo on his tour are the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah; the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto; the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen; the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah; Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Works and Housing; the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah; and the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.
