Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister for Works and Housing has assured the chief and residents of Appiatse that the government will work expeditiously to rebuild the collapsed town.
The minister in the company of other ministers of state Wednesday (26 January) paid a working visit to Appiatse to monitor the situation after last week’s explosion and to ensure the swift execution of the government’s rebuilding project to mitigate the plight of the people.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and residents in the Appiatse community, Asenso-Boakye commended the people for their resilience despite the devastating effects of the explosion
“We (the government) are with you in these difficult times and I must say that the government is committed to rebuilding this community. Of course, it is our responsibility that the government finds money as soon as possible so that the town that has been levelled can be re-built, including many other things that the government has planned to execute for the town.”
“…All the ministry officials and agencies under the ministry of works and housing have been here to ensure that the town is quickly reconstructed,” he said.
Support Fund
Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Tuesday (25 January) launched a support fund on behalf of the government to assist people affected by the explosion in Appiatse.
The ministry also out doored a five-member committee that has been tasked to manage the fund. The terms of reference for the committee are to raise sufficient funds to meet relief needs for the people of Appiatse and to supervise their disbursement.
Launching the fund, the minister tasked the committee members to ensure that the disbursement of funds raised is done in a transparent manner.
