The former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Alhaji M N D Jawula died over the weekend in the US after a short illness

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has eulogised the late chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula, describing him as a “good and kind” man.

Jawula died over the weekend in the United States after a short illness.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (22 January 2023), Bawumia said he was sad to learn of the demise of the veteran football administrator.

“I am saddened to hear about the passing of Lepowura Alhaji Mohammed Nuru-Deen Jawula.

“Lepowura devoted much of his life to sports development and the growth of public service in Ghana,” Bawumia wrote on Facebook.

“He was a good and kind man. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, subjects, and Ghana at large. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” Bawumia added.

Leadership at the GFA

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association, which Jawula led from 1997 to 2001, said it was sad to hear of his death and commiserated with the family in a post on Twitter.

Lepowura superintended the Black Starlets’ FIFA Under-17 World Cup triumph in 1995 in Ecuador.

Until his death, Alhaji Jawula was the chairman of the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC).

In private life, Alhaji Jawula was also the Lepowura of the Kujolobito Gate of Lepo-Kpembe in the Northern Region.
