Biden says he will visit Africa in February 2025 if he is re-elected

The announcement came during a high-level meeting with Kenyan officials, where both sides discussed the deepening of technological and economic ties between the United States and Kenya

In a recent statement made during Kenya’s President Ruto‘s  visit to the White House on Thursday (23 May), President Joe Biden announced his intention to visit Africa in February 2025, contingent upon his re-election.  He said, “I plan to go in February after I am reelected.”

The announcement came during a high-level meeting with Kenyan officials, during which both sides discussed deepening technological and economic ties between the United States and Kenya.

President Biden highlighted the importance of their partnership, emphasising the mutual benefits it brings to both countries.

Reflecting on his previous visit to Nairobi as Vice President, Biden lauded the strength and resilience of the Kenyan people and noted their contributions to democracy, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

He also underscored the significance of the 60-year relationship between the United States and Kenya, pointing out the transformative impact of technological advancements driven by innovators from Silicon Valley and Kenya’s Silicon Savannah.

He emphasized the pivotal role of technological cooperation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors, which are expected to bring substantial economic benefits.

“We’ve invested in new industries that have generated billions of dollars economically,” Biden stated, highlighting the creation of new opportunities that uplift both nations.

Kenyan President William Ruto, also speaking at the meeting, echoed Biden’s sentiments, highlighting Kenya’s role as a young tech country and the strong ties between Silicon Savannah and Silicon Valley.

He expressed confidence in the potential for increased investment and collaboration in digital jobs, business process outsourcing, and research and development.
