Black Starlets thrash Serbia 5-1 in UEFA U-16 development tournament

The victory over Serbia not only serves as a redemption for the team's opening 3-1 loss to Russia but also provides valuable insights and momentum for Head Coach Laryea Kingston as they prepare for their final group stage match against Kazakhstan

Ghana’s U-17 national men’s football team, the Black Starlets, bounced back emphatically from their opening defeat in the UEFA U-16 development tournament with a dominant 5-1 victory over Serbia on Friday (26 April).

The Laryea Kingston-coached side, playing at the VGAFK Stadium in Volgograd, Russia, controlled possession throughout the match, enjoying a significant 77% share of the ball. Their attacking prowess shone through early on, with Abdulai Nortey curling a superb opener past Serbian goalkeeper Bogdan Bogdanovic in the 16th minute.

Ghana continued to dictate the tempo, doubling their lead just before halftime through a penalty calmly converted by Benjamin Hanson. The Black Starlets’ dominance extended further with a precise header from Koranteng David, sending them into the break with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The second half mirrored the first, with Ghana dictating play. Ebenezer Anane added a fourth goal with a skillful strike in the 63rd minute. While Serbia’s captain, Pavle Stulic, pulled a goal back five minutes later, the Black Starlets remained firmly in control.

Skipper Benjamin Tsivanyo capped off a dominant display with a brilliant solo effort, putting the final touches on a comprehensive victory.

This win not only serves as a redemption for the team’s opening 3-1 loss to Russia but also provides valuable insights and momentum for Head Coach Laryea Kingston as they prepare for their final group stage match against Kazakhstan.
